Agent Wallet now supports x402 — Coinbase’s open payment protocol that lets AI agents pay for services autonomously, without you ever stepping in.
Payment has evolved from handing over cash to tapping cards, phones, and face ID — each step making it less of a conscious act. Yet one assumption always remained: you had to be there. Agent payments break that assumption completely. By 2028, AI agents will command $15 trillion in B2B purchasesand the infrastructure to support that is being built right now.

I use AI assistants daily to do real tasks. Last month, one helped plan my Tokyo trip brilliantly — until it needed to spend money. Then it hit a wall, and I had to take over.
That handoff is the exact gap x402 and Agent Wallet close. Connected via MCP, the agent doesn’t just suggest the trip — it completes it: booking flights, paying APIs, and settling on-chain without any human interruption.
How It Started: Solving Both Sides of the Equation
This journey didn’t begin with x402. The path wasn’t obvious at first.
It started with Prism — middleware that lets API providers easily accept stablecoin payments from agents. Prism solved the merchant side. But once merchants could receive autonomous payments, a bigger question arose: who is actually paying on the agent side?
That question pushed us to build Agent Wallet — a wallet for agents to spend autonomously mid-task. We then connected it to MCP, turning it into something any AI assistant could instantly pick up: Claude, Cursor, Visual Studio Code and more. Connect once, fund it, and your agent has spending power on demand.

Connecting the wallet was only half the challenge. We also had to solve discovery — how would an agent even know Agent Wallet existed and what it could do? This led us to skill development: defining clear capabilities, descriptions, and interfaces so agents could understand what, when and how to use it. After all, an agent that can’t find the tool can’t use it.
These efforts made us rethink how the two products should work together. Today, Finance District serves as the complete finance suite for the agent economy — with Prism powering the merchant side and Agent Wallet enabling the agent side — creating one seamless financial layer.
Building for agents forced us to rethink everything we knew about traditional payments. Human flows rely on checkout pages and conscious approvals. Agents live mid-task and need frictionless tool calls.
This shaped every decision. We prioritized Agent Experience (AX): the wallet picks the right network and token, signs securely inside an enclave, and keeps the workflow moving without breaking stride. This is where the x402 payment protocol became the perfect missing piece.
When an agent hits a payment request, Agent Wallet handles it smoothly in the background — choosing the best option, signing securely, and paying with stablecoins like USDC or FDUSD. The task continues seamlessly.
Coinbase and Cloudflare announced this x402 Foundation which was designed as the universal standard for AI-driven payments." — Coinbase. No forms. No approvals. No interruptions.
Prism makes it easy for merchants to receive and confirm the payment. One open standard connects both sides cleanly.
Imagine your AI assistant no longer stopping because money is involved.
Now it can research a trip, book the flight, and pay for it — all on its own. It can trade crypto, swap tokens, access paid tools, and handle any paid service without you stepping in.
That small shift, from suggesting to actually doing, will define the next era of AI.
And thanks to x402 and Agent Wallet, that future is finally here.
